SUMMER YOGA 2010

SUMMER SESSION – WEEKLY CLASSES
July 6 through August 12 (6 weeks)

Schedule
Tuesdays, 5:30 - 7 pm, Vinyasa Flow with Rachel
Thursdays, 5:30 - 7 pm, Gentle Yoga with Rachel

Cost. All classes are by donation. Suggested donations: Drop-in for $12-15 per class. 1 class per week for 6 weeks for $80. 2 classes per week for 6 weeks for $145. Donations in any amount are graciously accepted.

Descriptions

Vinyasa Flow. A dynamic and spirit-lifting class in the Kripalu-style. Continuous breath and body flows (vinyasa) will be balanced with sustained postures (asanas), with a focus on building strength and fluidity. Students will be guided in breathwork (pranayama) and meditation-in-motion to access inner energy and increase concentration. Relaxation (savasana) and meditation will support integration at the end of class. This is an intermediate class; previous yoga experience is helpful.

Gentle Yoga. A calming and supportive class in the Kripalu-style. This class includes detailed instruction on yoga postures (asanas) and breathing techniques (pranayama), as well as an introduction to meditation and yoga philosophy. Learn to tap into your natural ease and allow yoga to support your daily life. This is a gentle class; perfect for beginners, individuals healing injuries and advanced students who want to slow down.

PRIVATE LESSONS. Explore yoga for the first time or deepen your practice during one-on-one sessions. Sliding scale: $50-80/hour. By appointment.

Gentle, Kripalu Style Yoga for all levels
Mondays 5:30-7:00 p.m. starting again September 20
Classes are on-going, with some breaks.

Simple postures focus on alignment and the coordination of breath and movement. Slow, gentle stretching and strengthening will be practiced, with the development of focus, balance, attention, breathing techniques and relaxation. Kripalu Yoga has something for everyone because it works on so many levels. Many people come to it for the physical benefits of increased strength and flexibility, and then also find ways to calm, focus and energize their body-mind.  I call my classes ‘SIMPLYOGA’ because the essence of Yoga is not to achieve perfect or complicated postures, but to accept and honor your unique self by exploring your limits with respect and compassion. Note: Fall classes begin September 20 (no classes in August).

COST: Drop-ins $12, discounted by the session.

ShivaShakti School of Yoga
    ShivaShakti Yoga is an integral approach to yoga,
cultivating harmony within the body, mind, and spirit.
Rather than being a style, ShivaShakti Yoga is a
methodology based on traditional teachings adapted
for today’s world. The name ShivaShakti represents the
balancing of masculine and feminine energies, principles
of hard and soft, and yin and yang. This concept of
unifying the energetic polarity within is the focus of
ShivaShakti Yoga.
    The physical yoga practice taught at the school is
derived from traditional asana styles. We teach a Vinyasa
form influenced by the sublime, meditative qualities of
Sivananda yoga and the purifying, strengthening, flow
sequences of Ashtanga. ShivaShakti classes reflect the
dynamic polarity of nature, varying from vigorous, flow
classes to more restorative, introspective routines.

ShivaShakti Yoga Teacher Training
The ShivaShakti Yoga Teacher Training Course is a comprehensive Yoga Alliance approved 200-hour program. Emphasis is placed on the development of one’s personal practice of asana (postures,) and Pranayama (breath,) as well as, teaching methodology and its practical application. Classical yogic philosophy is interwoven throughout the program, drawing on Vedantic and Tantric beliefs. Students receive a thorough education in Anatomy and Physiology as it pertains to a yoga practice. The program also includes daily yogic chanting and meditation. Upon completion of the course, students receive their ShivaShakti Yoga Teacher Certification and are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as a RYT. Click here for more info.
